The values in this table represent a compilation of literature citations and data collected from our own patient population of 3 days and older.

Neutrophil counts predictably rise and peak around 12 hours of age and slowly fall back over the following 12 to 72 hours of age.

* Values from birth through seven days are variable depending on gestational age. Values stated are for term babies. For preterm babies, neutrophil numbers are approximately 20-50% lower during the first few days and catch up by about 1 week of age. From 1 week to 1 month preterm babies have 20-50% higher granulocyte counts than their term baby counterparts. Reference values are available upon request.
