Specimen Requirements
Feces-Preserve in a screw cap Cary-Blair vial. Do not exceed the fill line.

NOTE: rectal swabs in Cary Blair will not include Shiga Toxin EIA testing.

72 hrs

Special Instructions
Routine stool culture will screen for E coli 0157, Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Yersinia and Shiga toxina EIA.

Shiga Toxin EIA detects both toxin 1 and 2 produced by Enterohaemorrhagic E.coli (EHEC) also referred to as Shiga-like toxin producing E.coli (STEC).

Any other test must be specifically ordered.

Ranges
No Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, E coli 0157 or Campylobacter isolated
Shiga Toxin negative
