Installing the test version of terminal server.
We have been testing SPSS and SigmaPlot software using the test version of terminal server. This testing is complete, but if you need to try additional tests, here are the instructions on how to do so.
Installing the test version of terminal server
Right click on your desktop (click with the right button rather than the left button). A popup menu will appear. In the popup menu, select New | Shortcut. A dialog box labeled Create Shortcut will appear. In the field where your computers asks for the location of the item, type
http://w2kterm1/tsweb
and press RETURN (or click on the NEXT button). A new dialog box labeled Select a Title for the Program will appear. In the field where the computer asks for the name of the shortcut, type
SigmaPlot
and press RETURN.
These instructions will change after we are finished testing. In particular, the location of the item will change.
Logging on to the test version of terminal server
Click on the SigmaPlot icon. A window titled Connect to Terminal Server will appear. Type
w2kterm1
in the field where your computer asks for a server name. The first time you do this, you might get a SECURITY WARNING dialog box that says (among other things) "Do to want to install and run Terminal Services ActiveX Control?" Don't panic. This is just a Microsoft safeguard against viruses and they are honest enough to warn you about any unusual activity, including activity of their own products. Just click on the YES button.
After you are finished with the security warning, or if you do not see a security warning, you are ready to connect. Click on the CONNECT button. In the Log On to Windows dialog box (see below), type the same user name and password that you use when you turn on your computer in the morning.
You will now see the desktop of the test version of terminal server. This looks very similar to your own desktop, except that it has a different background color and it has an icon for SigmapPlot 2000. Click on this icon to run SigmaPlot
These instructions will change after we move to the production version of terminal server.
How do I exit from the test version of terminal server?
At the bottom of the terminal screen is a start button that looks just like the START button on your regular computer. Click on START and select Shut Down from the menu. You will see either a DISCONNECT or LOG OFF option chosen (see below). Either one works the same. Click on the OK button. Close the Connect to Terminal Server window.
Removing the test version of terminal server
Click on the icon and press the delete key. This will send the program to your recycle bin.
