Section Chief
Mary Anne Jackson
MD

Welcome

Within our section, we will provide the highest quality health care to all patients. We regard our role in educating the next generation of leaders in child health to be one of the most important roles we play as faculty members. All section members are educational resources for our community, faculty, residents, students and allied providers.  We have been instrumental in building alliances nationally with the ultimate goal to enhance the health and well-being of the children and families. Scientific investigation targeting best practice for decreasing antimicrobial resistance and hospital acquired infection, prevention of communicable infection and vaccine education and implementation form the focus of research within the section.

There are 7 faculty members, all board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. The PID Fellowship Program, directed by Drs. Mary Anne Jackson and Angela Myers, currently has 2 fellows. Dr. Christopher Day is the current second year fellow; he is also pursuing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research. Dr. Jen Goldman is the first year fellow, pursuing additional training in Clinical Pharmacology.

"Innovation, education and achievement are the cornerstones of the vision for the ID section."

The infectious disease clinical service provides inpatient consultation for over 1000 patients annually. An active outpatient clinic features ½ clinic 5 days per week and each faculty member takes community telephone consultations 1 day per week. Gina Weddle, RN, CPNP is the current inpatient nurse practitioner and is currently pursuing her PhD in Nursing Research. Christy Dejmal, RN, CPNP is the current outpatient nurse practitioner and is actively involved in care of HIV exposed children, those referred for latent tuberculosis and those with recurrent MRSA infection.
