We report directly to the Director of Med/Surg Nursing and the Director of Critical Care Nursing.
The patient to nurse ratio varies by floor but generally is 1 RN to 3 patients without a Care Assistant or 1 RN to 4-5 patients with a Care Assistant.
Full-time employees in the Float Pool work 3 12-hour shifts each week:
- 7:00 am-7:30 pm
- 7:00 pm-7:30 am
We also have part-time, PRN, and Weekend Option positions.
Orientees train one-on-one with different preceptors in different areas throughout the orientation process. The length of orientation for nurses varies, depending on the skill and experience of the nurse. Generally, a new nurse in the Med/Surg Float Pool will spend 1-2 weeks training on each med/surg unit and 3 weeks in each critical care area. New Care Assistants spend 2-3 shifts training on each unit. Nurses in the Critical Care Float Pool spend 6 weeks training in each area: PICU, ICN, and ED.
Paid training is available to become a preceptor, improve leadership skills, obtain PALS certification, and more!
Graduate NursesThe Float Pool does not hire Graduate Nurses.
