Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship

Welcome to the Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics (CMHC) Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) fellowship program.  The goal of our fellowship program is to train academic pediatric emergency medicine physicians who will become leaders in the field, teachers of emergency care providers, and researchers who will work to improve the care of acutely ill and injured children.

CMHC is the only freestanding children’s hospital in the Kansas City area, providing both tertiary and primary care of children in a large region.  Our referral base spans greater than 100 miles in each direction.  CMHC is consistently recognized as one of the top children’s hospitals in the county and benefits from generous community support.  Our hospital is the pediatric training center for the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.  In addition, residents in pediatrics, emergency medicine and family medicine spend time learning in our emergency department.

The PEM fellowship program began in 1981, making it one of the oldest programs in the country, and it is fully accredited by the ACGME.  We have an annual patient volume of over 63,000 patients at our main campus Emergency Department, with an excellent mix of emergent, urgent and routine problems.  We provide 24 hour attending/fellow coverage and are the only Pediatric Trauma Center in the region.  Our faculty and fellows are active in teaching, research, community advocacy and outreach and leadership at both local and national levels.

We encourage interested applicants with either pediatric or emergency medicine residency training.  We support the pursuit of advanced degrees, such as an MPH, MS in Bioinformatics or MBA during fellowship training.  Please take a moment to explore our website and learn more about the program.
