Welcome to Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics (CMHC) Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program. The 3 year program offers a comprehensive clinical and research experience that fully prepares the fellow for a career in an academic or clinical setting. The diverse faculty interests and broad clinical experience encountered at CMHC provides a unique fellowship experience.
Expertise in the diagnosis and clinical management of an extensive range of Nephrology related disease processes is gained through the primary management and consultation experience both on an inpatient and outpatient setting. The fellow will gain experience in prescribing and managing all forms of dialysis in the neonate through the adolescent. Fellows participate in the management of renal transplant recipients including the preoperative evaluation, acute post operative care and long-term follow-up.
The research experience is integrated throughout the length of the fellowship beginning with exploration of research ideas in the first year to implementation in the second and third years. We encourage and support fellows to create their own unique research projects based on their interests. Clinical, educational and basic research opportunities are available.
Fellows are considered team members in providing education to residents, medical students, nurses and faculty. The fellow is provided with many opportunities to work on teaching and presentation skills including the opportunity to present at local, regional and national venues.
