The Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship is a three year ACGME accredited fellowship program designed to train pediatricians in the clinical care, education and research of endocrinology and diabetes. The clinical and didactic training is intended to expand knowledge of pediatric endocrine conditions including disorders of growth and puberty, thyroid and adrenal conditions, hypothalamic and pituitary disorders and disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.
Our fellowship is one of the largest training programs in the country with funding for up to 7 fellows at any given time. Strengths of the program include two large programs involving research on diabetes and gender differences. Our faculty are actively involved in education, research and publication.
We have one of the largest diabetes programs in the country caring for approximately 1600 diabetic patients. We are national leaders in the science of defining puberty and establishing normal ranges for the timing of puberty. We have a very active program addressing disorders of sex development using an interdisciplinary team approach.
The Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics (CMHC) is a regional, tertiary referral center. Our patient referral base spans six states. CMHC is consistently recognized as one of the top children’s hospitals in the United States. Our hospital has the generous support of an extraordinary community. With their help, we have built a special hospital that offers outstanding facilities that combine the latest in technology and patient care services with a beautiful, family-friendly environment.
Fellows have ample opportunities to teach residents and medical students.
