Welcome from the Program Director
Welcome to the Fellowship Program of the Section of Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Children’s Mercy Hospital. This program is sponsored by the University of Missouri-Kansas City. We are proud to offer fellowship opportunities in pediatric gastroenterology at our Hospital. The Children’s Mercy Hospital is an outstanding facility that provides comprehensive care to a multistate area including Missouri and Kansas. Our faculty consists of 8 experienced gastroenterologists, 20+ nurses, nutritionists, and social workers. We are committed to high quality patient care enhanced by research and academic endeavors.
The fellowship program consists of 3 years of training. The first year is divided between endoscopic procedures, inpatient and outpatient care. There is time during the first year to begin research activities. As the fellow progresses thru the 2nd and 3rd year more time is spent in research activities. During those 3 years, the fellow will spend 9 months in endoscopy, 6 months on inpatient and consultations, 9 months in the outpatient clinics, and 12 months in research.
The Scholarship Oversight Committee is under the direction of Dr Craig Friesen and monitors fellows academic and research activities. Active participation in academic and research activities is required by all fellows. We wish to prepare fellows to be excellent clinicians, superb endoscopists, and capable academicians.
