Burn and Trauma Care Why Children's Mercy
Burn and Trauma Care Why Children's Mercy

Children's Mercy operates the only burn unit in the region dedicated solely to pediatric patients.

Patients and their caregivers receive comprehensive care plans from a multidisciplinary team. In addition, coordinated outpatient treatments can reduce inpatient length of stay and allow children to remain in the care of their families.

Children's Mercy serves as the primary referral hospital for pediatric trauma patients in our region. Injured children under age 17 are preferentially routed to our facility.

Five board-certified pediatric surgeons and a wide variety of specialists are available to assist our patients.

Children's Mercy Hospital strives to provide the highest quality care possible. As a result, our mortality rate for pediatric trauma patients (in 1997) was less than the national average.

Mortality for Pediatric Trauma Patients (1997)
Children's Mercy Hospital 3.0%
National Average 3.2%

By using non-surgical interventions to treat abdominal trauma, our physicians have been able to reduce costs, surgical complications and length of stay for patients with liver and spleen trauma.
